about

“Social Security” is Max McFerren’s second full length release as Complete Walkthru. It is the first release on the new Complete Walkthru Music, an outlet for his most distilled and pure personal expressions as well as whatev the future holds. The album is also a hijacking of a planned third MCFERRDOG tape, giving closure to the series by the re-invention of the storyteller himself.

In a letter to artist Mason Lindroth, CW writes:

“that is great. im just trying to DIY in life. so this project is way simple. i want to be the boss ya know.

the theme for this project is the hijacking of the 3rd and final mcferrdog tape by Complete Walkthru. a real reinvention ala everyone who ever lived. the tape is about accepting mortality and geriatrics. its a closure piece. it will be self released because when we get old i imagine us as very independent, solemn, and unbound to systems of domination we’ve known for years.”

In typical form the work follows a dramatic arc, opening with lit up fanfare on the affirmation of life that is “Ya Gonna Die”. Moving through multiple examinations of joy and serenity we end up in the inevitable storm of doubt with the evocative and sludgy “Rain Rain Rain”. We take a turn away from the dog’s typical antics and jokes to something more personally responsible in the loosely familiar CW style of “Cryptos on Tiptoes”. This divergence forces us into a show of strength and perseverance on “When I Was Young I Followed She Fell Industries”. Our aged souls by now choose (not find) peace once again in “Welfare” and “DoDa Strut” where we reflect on the life expressed previously by MCFERRDOG’s “Club Amniotics” and “Lawd Forgive” me. We’re good now.
